Ma'am, That Receipt is NOT a Ticket
We spent today exploring downtown Copenhagen. City Hall is a significant-sized building, centred on a large square. The area bustles with the tourist set.
We hiked past Tivoli Gardens which we expect to visit tomorrow. We walked by at 11:00 and it was teeming with hundreds of school children queuing up and anxious for a day of celebrations. Tivoli Gardens is an amusement park and gardens and it is the second-oldest amusement park still operating in the world. It is unusual to have such a feature in a downtown location. The screams of all of the participants echoed through the downtown as they rode the roller coasters and went up and down on the carousel.
The Christiansborg Palace, the Parliament building and the Supreme Court building were our next focus. Lucas was entranced by the Horse Parade that greeted us as we first entered the grounds. Bollards electronically controlled the access of service vehicles into the Palace and Parliament grounds and it was fascinating to see how these worked.
Jon went for a tour of the National Museum while the rest of us toured the Childrens' Museum. They share the same building so it worked out well. Lucas got to meet some of the other children and found a friend equally interested in the marketplace store who was quite perturbed by his interest in the vegetables she thought should be under her control.
Then it was back on the metro to head back to our apartment. Today's lesson: keep your train ticket on you at all times and be sure you correctly separate the receipt from the actual ticket (ie. don't leave your ticket in your apartment.) We were thankful our unintentional error didn't result in a significant penalty. Delicious croissants from the local bakery helped soothe this author's embarrassment.
It's another "noir" day here today, and there's little sunshine forecast. The humidity is usually close to 100% so we've all got lovely locks and are getting good use of our rain and warm gear. It's an interesting balance to dress in layers suitable for the wet rain but also the heat of the humidity. We took the elevator up to the rooftop playground today and it was fun to see the play structures suitable for everyone of all ages. There was a pretty horrific north wind blowing up there that made it challenging for wee ones today but there was an adult running group training. David took a lot of photos from the rooftop which illustrate the shipping traffic in the area.
